If the developers wish to verify that I actually own a legitimate copy of starbound and am posting this bug report purely to assist them, they need only check my steam account for details.Īs this is a launcher crash, it is not generating a log file upon the crash so I have no information other than a generic windows error to submit. This shows that there is a problem with the Launcher and this needs to be corrected. But the unaltered purchased copy crashes pretty much instantly. The irony here is that to get starbound to run properly, you have to hack it and remove the steam drm and disable the launcher. Ive tried deleting and re-installing as that seems to be the only solution. Starbound crashes after ChuckleFish logo (sometimes before) whenever I open it up. I do not condone or suggest you use any sort of pirated software. Ive searched desperately across the internet trying to fix my issue, but no luck, and was hoping one of you more tech savvy users may be able to help me. I am putting this information here only to inform the developers of a problem with their software as a bug report. NOTE! Steam does not like this sort of activity and will view it as hacking/pirating even if you own the game! It could cause potential problems with your steam account if you leave steam running when you start starbound with these modifications. Here is my starbound. If you are using -dxlevel 70 make sure to remove it from your launch. Then launch starbound.exe and it will start the game without starting the launcher or opening steam first. Hello everyone Im having a bit of an issue and was hoping someone more savvy than I could figure out what is broken in my mod list. Our games no longer support DirectX 7 as a launch option. I went into the win32 directory and deleted the launcher folder, then removed all files with 'steam' in the name, then replaced the steam_api.dll with a modified version which does not actually link to the steam client itself. This second fix is a bit more involved, it basically removes the launcher from the game entirely and bypasses using the steam client. Click the play starbound button asap before the crash occurs, this is difficult to do and if clicked multiple times before the crash happens (which happens very quickly I might add) then you may end up starting multiple copies of the starbound game which you will have to later close.Ģ. There are TWO possible work-arounds I have found.ġ. However this makes it very difficult to actually play the game. This is the launcher crashing, and not the game itself. After that point, the game is nonresponsive, but using about 20 of my CPU, for up to half an hour (thats the longest Ive waited). When I start starbound, it opens up a launcher which crashes pretty much instantly. I just got the game, and am trying to play it but it always crashes somewhere between the Chucklefish logo and the first half-second of the main menu screen.
